78 percent of people say that when the return
from a
trip, their dogs are happier to see them than their
spouses.
Only about 20 percent of the dogs in U.S.
homes are
adopted from shelters.
A dog's brain is 90 percent smaller than a
human's
brain, but a dog's olfactory bulbs (where interpretation
of scent resides) are almost six times larger. A dog's
sense of smell is thought to be 100 times greater than
a human's.
A human's perfect vision is 20/20, but a dog's
vision is
probably closer to 20/75. That means a dog would
have to be 20 feet away from an object that a human
could see clearly from 75 feet away. Dogs
compensate with heightened hearing and sense of
smell.
Human skin is slightly acidic, and soaps and
shampoos are formulated with that in mind. The skin
of dogs is either neutral or slightly alkaline, so they
need soaps and shampoos specially formulated for
their pH levels.
