Bandanas Helps Asheville Humane Society
Bandanas Mobile Grooming has "adopted" Asheville Humane Society as one of the charitable organizations in our community that we support. Bandanas believes in helping dogs who are less fortunate than our clients' dogs, so we donate our time and grooming expertise to dogs at the AHS Adoption Center to get them ready for adoption.
Max is just one example of an adorable little stray shih tzu mix who was found on the side of a road in a crate. Weighing in at 15 pounds, Max actually lost an entire pound after Bandanas groomer Sharon Wood shaved off his mats. "His head was so heavy with mats, he could barely lift it," Sharon said. "We couldn't see his eyes or even find his skin because the mats were so thick. Once he was rid of those dirty mats, he became a friendly, animated, happy-go-lucky dog who loves people." We're happy to report that after his groom, Mat was adopted.

Dog "Factoids"
- Over 77 million dogs are owned by U.S. pet owners. Over 45 million households own dogs.
- 73 percent of U.S. pet owners say they would go into debt to provide for their pet's well-being. Ninety-three percent say they would probably risk their lives for their dogs.
- Soaps and shampoos made for people are formulated for slightly acidic human skin. Dogs' skin is slightly alkaline, however, so they need soaps and shampoos specially formulated for their own pH levels.
- Americans spend more annually on dog food than on baby food.
- The bloodhound is the only animal whose evidence is admissible in a U.S. court of law.
- If a dog eats a bit of snow, it will probably not be harmful. Eating a lot of snow, however, could lower a dog's body temperature and potentially cause hypothermia.
- "Feathers" are long fringes of hair that hang down a dog's body, as on an Irish setter. Hair that covers a dog's face is often called a "veil" or a "fall." Hair covering the eyes might be called a "curtain."
- Despite the myth that dogs and cats do not get along, it is not uncommon for these domesticated species to coexist in a household, especially if they have lived together from a young age.
- Dogs move their ears to better locate sounds, and many dogs can move each ear independently from the other.
